Speculation about a new budget iPhone device has been rife over the past few months and now a new reports has revealed that production on the model is underway in order for it to be released in August this year, possibly with the iPhone 5S. It has also been reported that Apple are readying the new iPad Mini to be released at around the same time as these two new smartphones. Early stages of production have already begun for the new budget iPhone, believed to be named the iPhone Light, and mass component shipments are set to get underway during July ahead of the August release for the model. It looks as though manufacturing partner Pegatron will be responsible for the production of the handset rather than Foxconn, the company who Apple traditionally use for new iPhone and iPad devices. None of these three new device have been confirmed by Apple themselves but industry analysts are already making bold predictions about the number of handsets that Apple can expect to shift. Ming-chi Kuo of KPI Securities believes a total of 35.8 million iPhone 5S handsets will be shipped this year along with a staggering 53.4 million iPhone Light models.
Earlier in the year we saw the new iPad Mini device launched and it looks as though we can look forward to a second generation of this device arriving alongside the iPhone 5S and budget iPhone models. It is believed that this new iPad will feature an improved Retina Display meaning that it will be able to display a resolution of 1080P. Turning our attention to the new iPhone Light the model is set to feature a plastic body rather than the more premium design that will be boasted by the iPhone 5S. This is one way for Apple to keep the cost of the device down to a minimum and help it to compete with the vast range of other mid range devices like the forthcoming Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini. Apple are keen to increase their profile in the middle range of the market. Traditionally the company’s new devices fall into the more premium range and experts state that the company needs to offer more in the way of budget phones to help them compete against many rival manufacturers.
The third quarter certainly looks very exciting indeed for Apple with a potential three new products arriving including the iPhone 5S and the new iPhone Light.
